Chesed Spotlight: Larry Hyatt

2019 Chesed Honoree Larry Hyatt

Larry and his wife Carol, who recently celebrated their 40th anniversary, are relative “newcomers” to Nashville, having lived here for about 14 years.  From almost the moment they arrived, they were struck by the warm welcome that they received from the Nashville Jewish community, and are thrilled to call Music City home.

Larry grew up in Queens, NY, and received his BA in Economics from Williams College and his MBA from Harvard Business School.  He has almost 20 years of experience as the CFO of five different publicly-listed companies, having retired in 2016 as CFO of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Lebanon, TN. Larry currently serves as a Board member and Audit Committee Chair for Carrols Restaurant Group, the world’s largest and only publicly-listed Burger King franchisee.

Larry has always been committed to giving back to his community.  When they lived in Washington, he and Carol were founding members of Congregation Or Chadash in Germantown, MD, where Larry served as a Board member for 10 years, and President for two years.  He also served for many years on the Board and Finance Committee of the Jewish Social Services Agency for Metropolitan Washington, the DC area’s version of JFS.  In Nashville, Larry has served as Treasurer of Congregation Micah, Treasurer of JFS, and is currently President of the Board of the Akiva School and serves on the Budget and Finance Committee of JFS.  He also served on the Board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Middle TN.  Carol has also been very involved in our Jewish community and is the Immediate Past President of the Jewish Federation of Nashville.

Larry and Carol are most proud of their two children.  Seth is an attorney practicing in Nashville, and Rebecca is a social worker in Austin, TX.  Their three-year old granddaughter Eliana is a future student at Akiva School, and Larry’s 100-year old father lives in Nashville at Park Manor.
