The Helping Hands Art/Opening Minds Through Art Program is a collaboration between JFS Nashville and Opening Minds Through Art (OMA), a national evidence-based art program. OMA's mission is to build bridges across age and cognitive barriers through art through matching a trained art facilitator with someone living with dementia. In offering music and art options, JFS recognizes the uniqueness of each situation and strives to offer opportunities for meaningful engagement and positive interaction. Our providers travel to homes, assisted living communities or nursing homes. Art created by our participants will be displayed in the Sig Held Gallery at the Gordon JCC for the entire month of September 2024 with a reception exhibiting their work on September 11, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 PM Download the information sheet here or view more information about the dementia enrichment program on our website.

Beads of Courage: Strand for Strength and Remembrance Workshop was created for those who are coping with the death of a loved one. During this symbolic and creative arts program, participants are encouraged to express their memories, fears, courage and hope for the future, while honoring family and self through a guided process. Each participant will create a unique Strand for Strength and Remembrance from the symbolic beads provided. JFS's Toni Jacobsen, LCSW will guide participants through a five-step process to create their personal bead strand. The program incorporates art, creativity, reflection, breathing exercises, storytelling, and remembrance. "I am forever grateful for this activity. It gifted me a symbol. A symbol that is a constant reminder of the courageous people willing to walk with me, and hold space for me, as I courageously acknowledged and processed my grief and sadness over one of the greatest losses of my life." -Prior Participant
